How It All Began

A Family Recipe,
A Lifelong Dream

Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza was born from a simple but powerful idea: that pizza made the old-fashioned way — in a coal-burning oven at searing temperatures — is simply better. Founder Anthony Romano grew up watching his grandmother hand-stretch dough in her Brooklyn kitchen, layering San Marzano tomatoes and fresh mozzarella with the kind of care that mass production can never replicate.

After years of perfecting his craft, Anthony brought that tradition south to Brandon, FL — where he opened a neighborhood spot committed to the same values: fresh ingredients, honest cooking, and community. Today, every pie that comes out of our coal oven carries that original spirit. Nothing frozen, nothing rushed, nothing but real food made with love.

2008

The Dream Takes Shape

Anthony Romano begins years of research into traditional coal-fired cooking methods, studying pizzerias from New Haven to Naples, determined to bring that experience to Florida.

2010

Opening Day in Brandon

Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza opens its doors at 1912 W Brandon Blvd with a single coal oven, five menu items, and a line of curious neighbors stretching to the parking lot.

2013

Best Pizza in Hillsborough County

Tampa Bay Times readers vote Anthony's the "Best Pizza in Hillsborough County" — the first of many awards that cement our reputation for quality and authenticity.

2015

Expansion & Renovation

Growing demand leads to a full dining room renovation and the addition of a second coal oven, doubling our capacity while preserving the warm, neighborhood atmosphere our guests love.

2017

Full Menu Launch

We expand beyond pizza to introduce our signature coal-roasted wings, handcrafted salads, and house-made pastas — building a complete dining experience around the coal-fired philosophy.

2019

Catering Program Launches

Anthony's officially launches its catering division, bringing coal-fired pizza to weddings, corporate events, and community gatherings across the greater Tampa Bay area.
